Dinner & A Movie: 14 Days of Love 10

Love Quote

Korean Drama Quote~ Triangle

It’s getting closer to one of the most romantic holidays of the year,Valentine’s Day, and we are still going on our Dinner and Movie dates.  The soundtrack for the night is by U Sung Eun.  This is the first time that I heard anything by her and I am amazed. She has such a powerhouse voice with a beautiful tone which makes her new single, Have to Hurt Once Anyway, such an emotionally beautiful song.

It’s Tuesday and we are starving so we decided on looking for a hearty meal to fill our stomachs for the night. We found the perfect meal and dessert @KoreanBapsang.  The recipe,Dakdoritang (Korean Spicy Chicken Stew), is similar to a stew I had at a restaurant that is no longer open for business. So is was heaven-sent that I found this recipe and the best part of this recipe is that it can be cooked in a slow cooker. Good for preparing the night before and set to cook the moment you leave for work in the morning and ready to eat when you return home.  It’s thick, spicy and has vegetables so it’s a complete meal that may not leave room for dessert but if you have room, you should try the Danpatjuk (Sweet Red Bean Porridge). This porridge is served as a snack or dessert. My Yeobo loves this dessert. I, however, am not a big fan but I am growing to like it the more I eat it. I am a not a big vegetable or bean person but since dating the yeobo, I have grown more accustom to trying but the vegetable I do eat are in a small portion to get the full effect of meal.  To top off the meal, we are drinking a sweet flavor Red Moscato by Barefoot.

It is almost impossible to find many movies that focus on a lesbian love story without having to deal with an overly sexual tone,  a love story involving the angst of teenagers confused about their sexuality or just not very interesting story lines.  The majority of ones I wanted to choose from are on DVD or aren’t English subbed.  {screams}  So I am going with the 2002 Taiwanese Movie, Blue Gate Crossing. Why???? Bo lin Chen , of course   🙂

The film stars Lun-Mei Guey as Kerou, a sullen teenager who tries to act as a go-between when her shy friend Yuezhen (Shu-Hui Liang) falls in love with Zhang (Bo-Lin Chen). Kerou approaches Zhang on her friend’s behalf, but the boy likes Kerou instead and doesn’t want to hear about Yuezhen. As Zhang is the popular kid at school — a swimmer with an easy way about him — Kerou thinks she should be happy, but she’s not. She is beginning to realize she has lesbian feelings for her friend Yuezhen.~AsianWiki

My Thoughts

Glad I chose this movie. It was beautiful in its simplicity and realistic of innocence in a time when being 16 or 17 years old weren’t rushed to adulthood.  It portrays realistic emotions that all teenagers go through: confusion, love, uncertainty, angst, conforming, denial etc.  The 3 main actors were wonderful at that time of being inexperienced and caused me to think back to my youth and experience those feelings I had at that time.  My Yeobo and I had a great time reminiscing about our teenage years and how different and how similar our memories and actions were even though we lived oceans apart and were raised in different cultures and religions.

( FYI: All the meals included in the Dinner & a Movie posts, we have eaten either at a restaurant or we have cooked at home as is or in different variations. The pictures are just for show as to give you an idea and are owned by either the specified blog where the recipe is located or a restaurant)
